Overview

When international SEO makes sense

International SEO makes sense once you sell to customers in more than one country or language. It helps search engines show the right version of your site to the right audience.

(01)Choosing markets

We look at demand, competition and your ability to serve each market before recommending where to expand first.

(02)Country domain versus subdomain versus subfolder

The choice between a country domain, a subdomain and a subfolder affects authority, cost and control. We recommend the structure that suits your stage of growth.

(03)Hreflang done correctly

Hreflang tags tell search engines which version of a page belongs to which country and language. We implement and test them so the wrong page does not appear in the wrong market.

(04)Multilingual and Spanish-language search in the US

Spanish language search is a real opportunity for many US businesses. We research Spanish terms separately rather than translating English keywords.

In-language keyword research

Keyword research is carried out in each target language, because people in different markets search in different ways.

Translation versus transcreation

Direct translation often misses how local buyers describe a service. We adapt copy so it reads naturally to each audience.

Search engines beyond Google

Google is not the leading search engine everywhere. Where your markets use others, we optimise for them as well.

FAQ
(01)Should I use a country domain, a subdomain or a subfolder?
Subfolders are usually right for a business entering its first few international markets, because they inherit the authority of the main domain. Country-code domains make sense at larger scale, or where a local legal entity and local trust matter more than keeping authority consolidated.
(02)When do we need international SEO?
When you sell into more than one country or language and want search to work in each. Not simply because you ship internationally from one market.
(03)What is hreflang?
The signal that tells search engines which version of a page belongs to which language and country. Done wrong it makes your versions compete with each other, which is the most common problem we find.
(04)Do we need separate sites per country?
Usually not. Subdirectories are simpler to manage and consolidate authority. Separate domains make sense when markets are genuinely independent.
(05)Is translated content enough?
No. Direct translation misses how people actually search in that language. Keyword research has to be done in market, not translated from English.
(06)Which markets should we start with?
The ones where there is demand you can serve and competition you can realistically beat. We size that before recommending anything.
